¶ When to Use This Guide
- If the air unit control cable has been connected to the gimbal correctly but the gimbal still cannot be controlled, use this guide to troubleshoot the issue.
¶ Possible Causes
¶ Issue 1: Firmware Version
- Make sure both the Avatar/Ascent receiver unit and air unit are running the same latest firmware version.

- Make sure both the head-tracking system and the gimbal are running the latest firmware.

¶ Issue 2: GM V1 Series Gimbal Settings
- With the latest V3.6 gimbal firmware, the gimbal control channel must be set to CH01 to support the Axis Lock shortcut function.
Remember to upload and write the parameters to the gimbal. Otherwise, the settings will be lost after restarting the gimbal.
¶ Issue 3: Insufficient Power Supply
- If the air unit is not receiving a stable and sufficient power supply, it may be unable to output a reliable control signal when connected to other devices.
- Pay particular attention when using a GT air unit. It requires at least 12 V for normal operation. A 12 V, 3A BEC is recommended, or the air unit can be powered directly from the battery if the input voltage is within its supported range.
¶ Issue 4: Axis Lock
- Firmware V39.44.15 includes an Axis Lock shortcut. Quickly double-press the Down direction on the five-way button to lock the gimbal axis.
¶ Issue 5: Cable Connection
- The gimbal package includes the cable required to connect the gimbal to the air unit. If the cable is not connected correctly, control data cannot be transmitted.
- Check that the cable is not damaged, the connectors are plugged into the correct ports, and the pins inside the air unit connector are not bent.
¶ Issue 6: Cable Problem
- The cable between the gimbal and Air Unit may be repeatedly bent or pulled due to mechanical stress, eventually causing an internal wire break.
- Check that the cable is in good condition and has no damage.
¶ Issue 7: Ground Connection Problem
- A common ground connection is required for reliable signal transmission. The Air Unit and gimbal must share the same ground.
- This issue is more common on fixed-wing aircraft, where the Air Unit and gimbal may be powered separately. Connecting only the two UART signal wires may not work without a shared ground connection.
