- When you need to use head tracking to control a gimbal or other devices.
¶ How It Works
- Head tracking works by having the ground-side goggles collect gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer, and other data, which is then transmitted wirelessly to the air unit. The air unit then outputs the control signal to the gimbal.
¶ Preparations
¶ Choose a Ground-Side Device That Supports Head Tracking
Ascent Goggles only supports Ascent series air units and cannot connect to the Avatar air unit system.

¶ Upgrade Module
- This upgrade module is not included as a standard accessory, and you may need to purchase it separately.
¶ Power Connector
- This depends on your needs. XT60 connectors are commonly used in RC models.
¶ Steps
¶ Step 1 Update the HD System Firmware
- Update both the ground-side receiver and the air unit in the Avatar / Ascent system to the latest versions.

- Update the head tracker and gimbal firmware to the latest versions.

¶ Step 3 Connect the Power Cable and Control Cable
- How to connect the gimbal to the air unit
- Avatar V2 is used here as an example. For other air unit models, please refer to the wiring guide.
¶ Step 4 Configure Gimbal Parameters
¶ GM V1 Series Gimbal
- When using a GM V1 series gimbal, because version V3.6 added support for the Axis Lock function, all control channels must be set to CH01.
¶ GM V2 Series Gimbal
- GM V2 series gimbals do not require any additional settings. They can start working after the cables are connected.
¶ Connect the PPM Signal to the Radio Transmitter
- The head tracker module can output a PPM signal, allowing it to connect to a third-party radio transmitter.
- Avatar Goggles X and Goggles L are used here as examples.

When using a GM V1 series gimbal, make sure to set the channels to CH01 and write the settings to the device. Otherwise, head tracking will not be able to control the gimbal.
